2011 All Star Raffle

2011 GWPCA All Star Raffle
Original Robert C. Hickey pastel

Congratulations to the winner of the pastel-
Michelle Boyd
Enjoy!

This is an original pastel on paper of Ch Mueller Mills Valentino II, commissioned by Helen Case Shelley.

The artist, Robert C Hickey, has been painting dog portraits since the 1950’s and has done commissioned work for collectors and dog owners throughout the world. Some of his pieces are owned by the AKC Museum For Dogs.

"Willy" (BIS Ch. Mueller Mills Valentino II) was a third generation Best in Show Dog (circa the 1960s), sired by BIS Ch. Mueller Mills Valentino and grandsired by BIS Ch. Oldmill's Cassanova, the first BIS dog in the history of our breed. He was owned by the late Helen Case Shelley and campaigned by handler Roy Murray. Helen was one of the original "Dual" patrons of our breed, having owned multiple BIS dogs, Dual Champions and GWPCA National Field Champions that were also Duals. Her devotion to the belief that dogs should be able to do what they were bred for, led her to donate this original pastel of "Willy" to the All-Star Invitational prior to her death in 2009.

Size of the piece is 14 ½ x 12 ½. The frame is 25 ¼ x 21. Both frame and art are in excellent condition with no issues at all. The back is original and has 2 artist’s stamps.

Other works by Hickey we have found are selling from $1000-$1800. There is one other piece by Hickey of a GWP that we are aware of. That piece is of Ch. Mueller Mills Valentino, also owned by Helen Case Shelley and is now owned by Jane Meyers. Jane won that piece during a hot and heavy bidding war at a GWPCA Nationals.
